Evergreen hedges should be established only in places where year-round privacy is required. On the other hand, a so-called privacy hedge, even if not evergreen, can protect your garden from unwanted views mainly in the summer months, and allow plenty of light into the garden in winter after the leaves have fallen off. If privacy is not the primary function of your hedge, it is better to choose deciduous diverse mixed hedges, which also offer more value for wildlife.
